50mm Lens Meetup

50mm Lens Meetup

Saturday 24 February
Downtown San Jose - 2pm - 2 Hours
Uyen Ta
The 50mm lens is one of the flexible and useful lenses in any photographer’s gear bag. It is neither a wide-angle or telephoto lens, but allows the camera to see on the same scale as your eye. As such, it can be used for a variety of styles, from landscape and street photography to portrait and product photography. In this meetup, we’ll review the basic camera settings. We’ll then cover some of the advantages of shooting with a prime lens, and some basic techniques to using the 50mm lens. As always, there will be ample opportunities for you to put your new knowledge into practice.

Uyen is excellent trainer. She did not waste any time and directly got started with the shoot and slowly started giving apt suggestions on frame, angles, exposures and practical aspects of analyzing best sides of models. She was courteous enough to pose as model for my training session. It's the best first exposure I've had on headshot photography.

At first, I was expecting the instructor to tell me where to shoot but it turned out that shooting first myself and having her check them out and give suggestions also worked well.

    PHOTOGRAPHERS
    Uyen Ta
Growing up, Uyen had a passion for taking photos and developed a plan to start doing a photography business herself in the fashion industry after modeling for a year. Having worked with a model in a very well known agency in SF, she has decided to start teaching the basics and fundamentals of how the camera works. It has been a fun, exciting five to six year journey to getting where she was at and ever since then has semi retired from photography and been shifting towards working on other hobbies such as streaming, djing and hanging out with close friends and family. She is currently at UC Berkeley getting two degrees and planning to travel more! She loves her dog, Monty, and tries to make sure everybody has a pleasant experience in a group setting in this informal, fun and laid back structured meet up!

Uyen Ta is available for private bookings

Available most Saturdays and Sundays from 1pm until 7pm.

I recently set up a photography studio in my condo and am trying to learn some portrait photography skills by watching YouTube video tutorials. Most of the time I'm using myself as a model. I actuate the camera shutter with a hand held bluetooth shutter release. With this shot I was testing a lighting setup that would create a "Rembrandt" lighting effect while at the same time bringing the light in from behind the subject...known as short lighting. When I was young I was into acting and am fasci

First off, I have to say that I am not a "Birder". But I love challenging my photographic skills and abilities. The American Kestrel is not a big bird, and it is fast. So even when you know its takeoff is imminent, it is still hard to get a nice clear photo of the bird. This particular image was shot with a Canon R6 camera, with the RF100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 L IS USM lens at 1/5000 sec, f/7.1 and ISO 4000. I used the animal eye-tracking feature of this mirrorless full frame camera, and was very plea

It was a cloudy day and my cat was up in the tree. he had always had very deep blue, but with all the defused light from the clouds and the contrast from the tree bark, It sent me running for my camera.I shot it on a Nikon D5600, with a 70 - 200mm lens, on January 25, 2024.I shot it raw while in manual mode, the aperture was 4.1, the iso 100, and the shutter speed was 1 over 700.
